cave vs. cavern
Contrary to popular belief, there is a difference between a cave and a cavern! A cave is any large cavity in which some portion of it does not receive sunlight. A cavern is a type of cave that is naturally formed in soluble rock with the ability to grow speleothems such as stalactites and stalagmites. Thus, any cavern is a cave, but not every cave is a cavern.
